Chelsea’s Story

Chelsea

Growing up in what I always considered a typical Christian household all I ever really thought Christianity dealt with Christmas and Easter. Even then, since we didn’t really celebrate those holidays at church or anything I thought only of the gifts that came with Christmas and the easter egg hunts and Florida family trips that came with Easter. I went through all the motions of being a Christian, I celebrated all the holidays, got confirmed, and attended Sunday School sometimes, without ever realizing what it truly meant to be a Christian.

When it came time to go to High School I followed in my brother’s footsteps and went to a private Christian high school. I learned a lot about who God is, what the Bible says, how it applies to issues in science, and a lot of other things. My knowledge of Christianity had grown exponentially and I learned how Jesus Christ had died on the cross as a sacrifice for my sins, all the thoughts, words, and deeds I had done against God. Through that knowledge I accepted that fact and trusted him with my life and received his forgiveness. I had finally learned what it meant to be a Christian. The only problem now as that all that knowledge was residing in my head alone, very little was in my heart. I knew I was saved from going to hell but I wasn’t allowing it to rule in my heart and my life.

I had a hard transition to college. I missed my friends from home and felt a little abandoned by them. God used my loneliness and fear to make me all that much more ready to join a Bible study when the opportunity came. I became involved in a small group Bible study with Crusade and finally learned how much God desired a personal relationship with me and had been pursuing me all my life. I turned control of my life over to God at that point and although I still struggle with being judgmental, prideful, and selfish, among other things, God continues to work in my heart through his Spirit. My knowledge of him continues to grow and affect my life as I do things like mission trips, get more involved in Crusade, study the Bible, and am surrounded by people who love me, follow Christ and encourage me to follow him as well.
